Commissioning focuses on energy-using equipment such as mechanical equipment, lighting, and related controls. The process most often focuses on the dynamic energy-using systems with the goal of reducing energy waste, obtaining energy cost savings, and identifying and fixing existing problems. When Commissioning is applied to new buildings, it assures systems function in the highest standard of operation.
Retro-commissioning is the same systematic process, applied to existing buildings that have never been commissioned, to ensure that their systems can be operated and maintained according to the owner's needs.
