P1 Service Now Offers Critical Environment Certification
LENEXA, Kan. - The recent addition of Critical Environment Certification (CEC) services is allowing P1 Service, LLC, to better serve our healthcare and laboratory clients.
P1 Service CEC technicians visit controlled environments in hospitals, pharmacies and labs to test, repair and certify equipment. John Cobb, P1 assistant service manager, is leading the CEC team.
“We had two large hospitals – longtime customers - ask us if we could provide this for them,” Cobb said. “Companies they used previously would tell them there were issues that needed to be addressed, but then couldn’t fix the problems. We are able to test, fix any issues that we find and then re-certify them.”
To become qualified to offer CEC services, Cobb and two other P1 Service employees attended extensive training on testing procedures for clean rooms, biosafety cabinets and pharmacy compounding facilities.
Hospital pharmacy compounding facilities, in particular, are being held to increasingly stringent standards. Pharmacists prepare intravenous medications in their compounding rooms and there is a new code they must comply with - USP 797/800.
“This is where IV drugs, including chemotherapy treatments are being prepared and the new code requires that these compounding areas are completely clean,” said Cobb.
